Mt. Pleasant Animal Hospital, owned by Dr. Dennis Orr, provides professional, compassionate care for your pets. We are located just 10 minutes from downtown Concord and 15 minutes from Rockwell, Albemarle, Locust & Midland.  Since 1988, Dr. Orr has been treating dogs and cats in Cabarrus County, and Dr. Aschenbrenner has been in practice since 1999.  We have been at our current location since 2007.  

The doctors at Mt. Pleasant Animal Hospital have education and experience in multiple aspects of veterinary medicine. Combined with our long-term, experienced, well-trained staff, this ensures that your pet will receive complete care. We use the most advanced technology and medical options available to help your pet.

  • Dennis C. Orr, DVM, Owner

    Dennis C. Orr, DVM, received his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Cornell University in 1986. He also received a B.S. in Animal Science from the University of Kentucky and is an avid Wildcats fan.   Dr. Orr enjoys being in the outdoors, hunting, fishing, attending Carolina Panthers' games and spending time with his family members including wife Paula and sons, Dustin who is also a veterinarian and Josh, who is attending Liberty University.  Dr. Orr currently has 3 dogs, 1 grand-dog, 3 cats, 2 miniature donkeys, 2 miniature horses, 2 miniature goats and a family of frogs.

  • Richard A. Aschenbrenner, DVM

    Richard A. Aschenbrenner, DVM, was born in Illinois and raised in Pennsylvania. He graduated from the University of Delaware with a B.S. Ag Degree and the University of Maryland-College Park with a M.S.Ag before attending the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Aschenbrenner graduated with a DVM in 1999. He enjoys surgery, general and wildlife medicine.  Dr. Aschenbrenner enjoys listening to music, camping, hiking and playing sports and spending time with his family.

  • Michelle Kolaya

    Front Desk and Veterinary Assistant

    You may meet Michelle at our front desk or in your exam room as she wears several hats. Michelle grew up in New Symere Beach, FL and Concord, NC. She graduated from High School and then attended CPCC for 2 years.  Michelle  enjoys  reading and painting. Family life includes her mother, two sisters, two nieces, one nephew, and a multitude of great nieces and nephews. And of course pets include a large variety, including one cat, several boston terriers, dachshunds, tortoises, and multiple birds.

  • Barbara Nichols

    Registered Veterinary Technician

    You may meet Barb when you call to discuss dentals or surgeries as Barb usually assists Dr. Aschenbrenner during these procedures.  Barb grew up outside of Buffalo, NY, and is happy to be living in North Carolina where the annual snowfall is measured in inches.  Although her mother still resides in Buffalo, she has family here in the form of  Mack her adorable terrier/Chihuahua mix who she adopted after he was brought into the hospital with a gun-shot wound, River-her energetic Golden Retriever and Stewie, her cat.  Barb has worked in 7 states and 2 countries, and her hobbies include kayaking, camping, horses and travel.

    Registered Veterinary Technician

    You may meet Becky when you and your pet are led back to your exam room or the scale to be weighed (don't worry-the scale is for pets only!)  Becky grew up in Matthews, NC and graduated in the class of 1996 from Garinger High School.  She continued her education at Gaston College where she earned an Associates Degree in Veterinary Medical Technology.  Becky's family includes her son Reece, her cat Mr. Bo and her dogs Roxy & Franklin.  She enjoys spending time with her son, dogs, family and friends while kayaking, hiking, participating in 5K walks and arts & crafts.

    Kennel Manager/Bather

    You may not always see McKenzie because she is often in the back in her boots and apron often wet but enjoying what she does.  McKenzie grew up in Kannapolis, NC and graduated from A.L. Brown High School.  She attended Montreat College for 1 year and Rowan-Cabarrus Community College for 2 years.  Her two-legged family consists of her husband, CJ.  Her four-legged family consists of her dog, Jake, 1 snake and 2 guinea pigs.  McKenzie enjoys playing softball, photography, growing plants, going fishing, and definitely playing with animals!  Her special interests are helping people, going to the gym, and writing. Maybe one day McKenzie will be the next James Herriott.

    Trinity grew up here in Mt. Pleasant and graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School.  She went on to earn her paramedic certification from Rowan Cabarrus Community College.  Trinity's family consists of her two sons Dakota & Dalton, her daughter Kinslee, fiance Timmy, step-son Nathan, dog Jessie, cat Spike, and horses Grulla, Fred, & Sysco.  Trinity loves the outdoors, hunting, fishing, riding horses, archery, football and spending time with her family and friends.

    Cassi, who grew up in New England, graduated from UNC-Charlotte with a Bachelor's of Science in Biology.  Cassi is married to Brandon, has two children, two dogs named Ringo & Cassie (not named after her-notice the extra "e"), three cats named Alice, Moon Pie & Jasper, chickens, guineas, bees, and maybe more?  Hobbies? Well, who has time for hobbies when you have a "hobby" farm?

    Sam is a local gal who grew up in Endy, NC (where's that?) and graduated from West Stanly High School (okay - so near Albemarle).  Sam also went to SCC to study business.  She has extensive experience working as a veterinarian assistant.  Sam is married to her husband, Jake, has a beautiful baby boy named Elijah, and if he doesn't keep her busy enough, she can look to her dogs Turner Field and Fenway Park or her cats, Kelso and Peaches for extracurricular activity.  Sam's hobbies include trail walks, anything outdoors, traveling and spending time with her family.

  • Paula Orr

    Office Manager

    Paula is employed at Mt. Pleasant Animal Hospital for the purpose of keeping Dr. Orr in line! Well, she also is the bookkeeper/payroll/tax person and has her own accounting/bookkeeping business.   She grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio, and received her B.S. in Economics and Finance from the University of Kentucky where she also found Dr. Orr.  They both are extreme "Big Blue" fans.  Paula and Dr. Orr have two sons, Dustin and Joshua, 3 dogs, 3 cats, 2 miniature horses, 2 miniature donkeys, 2 goats and a grand-dog.  Paula enjoys playing keyboard and piano, graphic arts, flowers, tiramisu, chocolate and playing with animals!
