Mt. Pleasant Animal Hospital, owned by Dr. Dennis Orr, provides professional, compassionate care for your pets. We are located just 10 minutes from downtown Concord and 15 minutes from Rockwell, Albemarle, Locust & Midland.  Since 1988, Dr. Orr has been treating dogs and cats in Cabarrus County, and Dr. Aschenbrenner has been in practice since 1999.  We have been at our current location since 2007.  

The doctors at Mt. Pleasant Animal Hospital have education and experience in multiple aspects of veterinary medicine. Combined with our long-term, experienced, well-trained staff, this ensures that your pet will receive complete care.     Dr. Orr received his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Cornell University in 1986. He also received a B.S. in Animal Science from the University of Kentucky and is an avid Wildcats fan.   Dr. Orr enjoys being in the outdoors, hunting, fishing, attending Carolina Panthers' games and spending time with his family members including wife Paula, his son, Josh, who helps us out at the animal hospital, and his son Dustin and his wife, Laura, who are both veterinarians in Puerto Rico.  Dr. Orr currently has 2 dogs, 2 grand-dogs, 3 cats, 2 miniature donkeys, 2 miniature horses, 1 miniature goat and a family of frogs in his garden pond.

  • Richard A. Aschenbrenner, DVM

    Associate Veterinarian

    Dr. Rick was born in Illinois and raised in Pennsylvania. He graduated from the University of Delaware with a B.S. Ag Degree and the University of Maryland-College Park with a M.S.Ag before attending the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Aschenbrenner graduated with a DVM in 1999. He enjoys surgery, general and wildlife medicine.  Dr. Aschenbrenner enjoys listening to music, camping, hiking and playing sports and spending time with his family.

    Head Receptionist

    You may meet Michelle at our front desk or in your exam room as she wears several hats. Michelle grew up in New Symere Beach, FL and Concord, NC. She graduated from High School and then attended CPCC for 2 years.  Michelle  enjoys  reading and painting. Family life includes her mother, two sisters, two nieces, one nephew, and a multitude of great nieces and nephews. And of course pets including boston terriers, dachshunds, tortoises, a cat and multiple birds.

  • Barbara Nichols

    Registered Veterinary Technician

    You may meet Barb when you call to discuss dentals or surgeries as Barb usually assists Dr. Aschenbrenner during these procedures.  Barb grew up outside of Buffalo, NY, and is happy to be living in North Carolina where the annual snowfall is measured in inches.  Although her mother still resides in Buffalo, she has family here in the form of  Mack her adorable terrier/Chihuahua mix who she adopted after he was brought into the hospital with a gun-shot wound, River-her energetic Golden Retriever and Stewie, her cat (when he's not visiting the neighbors).  Barb has worked in 7 states and 2 countries, and her hobbies include kayaking, camping, horses and travel.

    Veterinary Assistant/Receptionist

    Trinity grew up here in Mt. Pleasant and graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School.  She went on to earn her paramedic certification from Rowan Cabarrus Community College.  Trinity's family consists of her two sons Dakota & Dalton, her daughter Kinslee, husband Timmy, step-son Nathan, dog Jessie, cat Spike, and horses Grulla, Fred, & Sysco.  Trinity loves the outdoors, hunting, fishing, riding horses, archery, football and spending time with her family and friends.

    Receptionist/Kennel Manager

    You may not always see McKenzie because she is often in the back in her boots and apron often wet but enjoying what she does.  McKenzie grew up in Kannapolis, NC and graduated from A.L. Brown High School.  She attended Montreat College for 1 year and Rowan-Cabarrus Community College for 2 years.  Her two-legged family consists of her husband, CJ.  Her four-legged family consists of her dogs, Jack & Boomer, 1 snake and 2 guinea pigs.  McKenzie enjoys playing softball, photography, growing plants, going fishing, and definitely playing with animals!  Her special interests are helping people, going to the gym, and writing. Maybe one day McKenzie will be the next James Herriott.

    Veterinary Assistant/Receptionist

    Sam is a local gal who grew up in Endy, NC (where's that?) and graduated from West Stanly High School (okay - so near Albemarle).  Sam also went to SCC to study business.  She has extensive experience working as a veterinarian assistant.  Sam is married to her husband, Jake, has a beautiful toddler boy and baby girl, and if that doesn't keep her busy enough, she can look to her dogs Turner Field, Fenway Park and Willow or her cats, Kelso and Peaches for extracurricular activity.  Sam's hobbies include trail walks, anything outdoors, traveling and spending time with her family.

    Veterinary Assistant/Receptionist

    Brianna is home grown right here in Mt. Pleasant, NC, so many of you already know her! She graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 2010 and married Jason in October 2017.  Brianna also enjoys the company of her 3 year old lab Jace, her 20 year old quarter horse, Eli, and her 13 year old paint horse, Chopper.  Brianna enjoys spending time with her husband, family, friends, traveling to new places and riding her horses.

  • Nita Jones


    Nita is a familiar face to the community of Mt. Pleasant/Concord.  She graduated from Concord High School in 1986 and received her Early Childhood college degree at Pfeiffer University after which she taught at Irvin Elementary School.  Nita worked with Dr. Orr 30 years ago before teaching, and now that she is retired from teaching, she works for us part-time!  Her family includes her husband Jeff, adult children Myers, Sam & Helen,  her dogs Happy (seen here), Tickle & Gertie, her cat Uh-Oh, her 4 horses Gem, Wynn, Fin & Rhett, her 2 donkeys Frank & Curly Beans, and her 2 pigs Bubbie & Kodak.  Nita loves spending time on her farm playing with the animals and riding horses.  She also loves photography and working part-time as a dog trainer.

    Veterinary Assistant

    Josh is the youngest son of Dr. Orr and Paula and is willing to work for us part-time when we are short-handed!  Josh graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 2012 and went on to earn his bachelor's degree at Liberty University.  He has grown up with numerous dogs, cats, horses, cows, goats and donkeys but had his own hamster and blue-tailed skink when he was young.  He currently has a shrimp living in a contained biosphere dome that has to be 10-15 years old!  Josh is seen here with his buddy Lucky.

  • Paula Orr

    Practice Manager

    Paula is employed at Mt. Pleasant Animal Hospital for the purpose of keeping Dr. Orr in line! Well, she also is the business manager/payroll/tax person.   She grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio, and received her B.S. in Economics and Finance from the University of Kentucky where she also found Dr. Orr.  They both are extreme "Big Blue" fans.  Paula and Dr. Orr have two sons, Dustin and Joshua, daughter-in-law Laura, 3 dogs, 3 cats, 2 miniature horses, 2 miniature donkeys, 1 goat and 3 grand-dogs.  Paula enjoys playing piano and organ at First Baptist Church, Rockwell, graphic arts, flowers, tiramisu, chocolate and playing with animals!
